Mt. Lebanon Native Dies After Assault In South Carolina

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man, who was originally from Mount Lebanon, has died in South Carolina after being assaulted.

Clint Seymour, 27, passed away in Charleston on Monday.

Seymour was a baseball player, a good friend, a good son and was simply out with friends on Saturday night in Charleston when a confrontation happened on a street corner.

"Clint is somebody that you'll spend one day with and you'll have 50 incredible memories," said Ryan Eckenrode, Seymour's friend and former teammate.

According to Charleston Police, Seymour and a group of friends were walking on the street when a joke was made while passing another group of people.

An altercation began and authorities say Seymour was sucker punched, hitting his head on the concrete sidewalk. From there, he slipped into unconsciousness.

"The fact that he's not here anymore is just devastating," said Eckenrode. "This is just so sudden and senseless."

Witnesses told police a black Lexus left the scene, but they did get a tag number.

A short time later, 26-year-old Peter Dudinyak of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and battery and simple assault.

"If anything happened to any one of us, he'd be the one knocking down your door; so the fact that this happened to him just adds to the tragedy of it all," Eckenrode said.

Seymour loved baseball. He started playing as a child and continued through his years at Mount Lebanon High School.

That's how he got to know Pirates' star Neil Walker who flew to Charleston on Monday to be with his friend at the very end.

Walker gave KDKA this statement: "Clint was a dear, special friend to me. He lifted so many people up with his heart and charisma and will be greatly missed. He deserves to be celebrated."

"I've never met a more well-rounded individual. He was good looking, he was intelligent," Eckenrode added. "He was a good athlete and his best quality was he was the best friend any of us could ask for."
