Mother Charged After Taking Child With Broken Vertebrae Out Of Hospital

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) – Police say Aliya Bey, 32, of Homewood, faces a charge of child endangerment after she brought her child to Children's Hospital complaining of a stiff neck on Friday.

Doctors said the child's C-2 vertebrae was fractured. However, Bey became tired of waiting at the hospital, and decided to leave with her child against medical advice.

Doctors say a fracture of the C-2 could be fatal, because it controls the diaphragm.

It could cause the child to stop breathing if the neck shifts and result in death.

A warrant has been issued for Bey's arrest. On Saturday, police checked a North Negley Avenue apartment for Bey and the child, but, they were not there.
