More Than 100 Deer Killed In Mt. Lebanon Deer Hunts

MT. LEBANON (KDKA) - More than a hundred deer were killed in efforts to cull the deer population in Mount Lebanon through an archery program.

A release from White Buffalo Inc. states that 104 deer were killed between a "Hunter Cooperative Harvest," which brought in 20 deer, and a "White Buffalo Hunter Harvest," which brought in 84 deer.

The release states that 83 percent of the harvest was female and also estimates that 2,520 pounds of the resulting meat were donated to local charity businesses.

Jody Maddock, Project Manager of White Buffalo Inc. thanked supporters and stated that the next step is the "implementation of a professional sharpshooting program" to further reduce the local deer population.

Efforts to cull the deer population have been controversial, some residents stating that they are uncomfortable with weapons being used on their streets.
