More Showers, Storms Possible Throughout Weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The weekend got off to a dreary start when storms moved through the area Friday evening, and the potential for wet weather is going to linger through Saturday and Sunday.

KDKA Meteorologist Kristin Emery says tonight we'll see mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly to the south.

"Once we lose the heating of the day after 8, 9 o'clock, this will start to settle down," she said.

Friday's storms caused damage in areas of Beaver and Butler counties, including knocking a tree onto a home in Worth Township, claiming a man's life.

"That front moved out and is now stalled out; it's kind of draped along the Pennsylvania-Maryland border and it's going to just kind of sit there for the next 48 hours or so. Finally, it'll move to the north as a warm front late Monday night," says Emery.

"The takeaway from all of this is more humidity, more moisture, some much-needed potential for rain," she said. "As this system sort of lingers, there's a chance for showers or an occasional thunderstorm."

On Monday, there's also a slight risk for severe weather.

"Then, [Sunday] afternoon and Monday afternoon when we get a little bit more potential for sunshine and afternoon heating, there's a chance we could see one or two strong thunderstorms, especially [Sunday] afternoon."

A Flood Advisory has been issued for Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
