More Prison Time For Man Who Fatally Stabbed Police Dog
PITTSBURGH (AP) - A man convicted of fatally stabbing a Pittsburgh police dog has been sentenced to an additional 1 to 3 years for probation violations in two other cases.
A judge Tuesday ordered 23-year-old John Rush to serve the time after he completes a sentence of 17 to 44 years for torture of a police animal and other charges.
Prosecutors say the Stowe Township man was on probation after pleading guilty in assault and statutory sexual assault cases when he stabbed K-9 unit dog Rocco in January 2014.
A sheriff's deputy spotted Rush in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood and attempted to arrest him on a bench warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.
Rush fought with the deputy and fled to an apartment building basement. Police sent Rocco in to try and compel his surrender.
