McKees Rocks (KDKA) -- The Montour School District has canceled classes for today, but it's not because of the inclement weather.

According to a statement on their website, it was because of an alleged threat shared very early this morning on social media that had some parents and students upset.

School officials say the Robinson and Kennedy Township police departments have determined through investigation that the threat was not directed at Montour, but instead, a school district in Virginia with the same initials.

The district says classes will resume on Tuesday morning as scheduled.

At that time the school staff will address the incident with the students, and counselors will be available to the students if they want to talk about it.

In school district says in a press release: "Please understand that all potential threats to our school or students are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. The safety of our students is our primary concern."

All staff was asked to report for the day.
