Chase Suspect Wounded In Exchange Of Gunfire With Police

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) -- A suspect was wounded during an exchange of gunfire with officers Wednesday evening after a police chase.

Sources tell KDKA the man took off from Alpine Village in Monroeville with weapons.

The man was reportedly in some kind of distress around 7 p.m., left his home with several guns, including a rifle. He drove across the Allegheny County line into Bell Township, Westmoreland County, near Apollo.

That's when several local police departments and state troopers got involved in a chase.

The driver bailed near the Beaver Run Reservoir and tried to get away on foot.

He reportedly opened fire on the officers who then returned fire. The suspect then went down.

It's not clear exactly who shot the man.

He was flown to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville for treatment. There's no word on the extent of his injuries.
