Mom Charged With Assaulting 4-Month-Old Outside Shadyside Store

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A mother was taken away in handcuffs after being accused of abusing and leaving her baby in a Giant Eagle parking lot.

It happened at Giant Eagle Market District on Centre Avenue in Shadyside around 1 p.m.

Witnesses say Tyla Evans was swinging her 4-month-old son and lifting him over her head before she forcibly laid him on the asphalt and left.

Bystanders cornered the woman and called store security.

The baby had a bruise on the back of his head and was taken to Children's Hospital.

The child's grandmother says Evans has a history of bipolar disorder.

She's charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
