Missing Nurse Whose Body Was Found In Ohio River Had Drowned

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - An autopsy shows a Pittsburgh nurse who went missing after leaving a bar with friends in December had drowned.

Pittsburgh police say the chief medical examiner in West Virginia made that determination Wednesday.

That's where 22-year-old Paul Kochu's body was found in the Ohio River in March.

Pittsburgh police say the medical examiner found nothing suspicious about Kochu's death, and police don't plan to investigate it further.

Kochu's body was found March 20 near Wheeling, West Virginia. The medical examiner's office ruled on his death Wednesday.

Kochu disappeared in the early morning hours of Dec. 16, 2014, on Wharton Street after a night out with friends on the South Side. He was a Duquesne University graduate and worked as a nurse in the ICU at Allegheny General Hospital.

Surveillance video showed him walking near a supermarket near his apartment a short time later.
