Arson charges filed against man accused of starting Millvale house fire

Arson charges have been filed against the man accused of starting a house fire in Millvale that damaged two homes and a vehicle. 

Firefighters and first responders were called to Evergreen Avenue in the early-morning hours of March 6 and learned that a fire that started in the rear of a home along North Avenue had spread to another home nearby.

Crews spent several hours at the scene working to get the fire out and the Millvale Volunteer Fire Department said at the time that the Allegheny County Fire Marshall was investigating the cause.

Allegheny County Police announced Monday that charges have been filed in connection with the fire.

Police say investigators were able to determine through evidence found at the scene and through witness interviews that 41-year-old Stephen Ebner was responsible for setting the fire.

Ebner, who is already being held in the Allegheny County Jail on unrelated theft charges and numerous bench warrants, is now facing numerous counts of aggravated arson, causing or risking catastrophe, and criminal mischief charges.

Ebner has yet face a judge for a preliminary hearing on the new charges.
