Mercer Co. D.A. Looking At 2 Persons Of Interest In Man's Murder

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Nine months after a 76-year-old man was found brutally murdered inside his home, there's been a possible break in the case.

The District Attorney now says he's looking at two persons of interest.

According to investigators, Frank Crash was found with 70 stab wounds inside of his Mercer Road home in Hempfield Township back in July of 2013.

On Wednesday, Mercer County District Attorney Robert Kochems said he, along with the Hempfield Township Police and State Police, have narrowed their search to two persons of interest in Crash's murder.

In a news release, Kochems says DNA testing from crime scene evidence matches one of the people they're looking at. It also confirms a second person was involved.

While an arrest of either person isn't expected for several months, the D.A. says the female person of interest is serving a state prison sentence and the male person of interest has left the state for the East Coast.

After Crash's death, police had been looking for a three-and-a-half carat diamond ring.

Kochems says 13 pieces of new evidence from the Pittsburgh area were sent to the State Police Crime Lab in Erie this week.

The D.A. won't give out the names, but says facts and other evidence suggests Crash wasn't a randomly selected victim and that the Greenville community can breathe a sigh of relief that the persons of interest won't commit further crimes in the area.
