PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A memorial service has been planned for Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Max Baer.

Baer died at his home on Saturday.

The public memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Duquesne University's Power Center.

Baer was 74.

Allegheny County Council President Pat Catena released this statement.

"It was an honor to see such a thoughtful and caring man become Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court," said Catena.  "His tireless advocacy for children and his impact on both the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will continue due to his efforts.

"Justice Baer was an honorable, hard-working, intelligent and dedicated Justice," said Council Member Paul Klein, one of three attorneys on County Council along with Suzanne Filiaggi and Anita Prizio.  "He would listen intently, review an issue, and make his decision with compassion and fairness."

Justice Debra Todd, of Pittsburgh, is expected to become the new Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court as the longest serving member.
