McKeesport Fire Destroys 2 Homes, Damages 1 Other
MCKEESPORT (KDKA) - A vacant home was destroyed by an early Friday morning fire, which spread to two neighboring homes.
According to officials at the scene, the fire started in a vacant home around 2:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Cleveland Street.
The fire quickly spread to homes on either side. A family in the home on the left had recently moved, but their furniture was still inside. That home is a total loss.
A man in the home on the right was able to get out safely before firefighters arrived. Crews were able to minimize the damage to that home.
The vacant home collapsed during the fire.
McKeesport native David Frederick said he could see the blaze down the street.
"I [saw[ flames shooting up 10-15 feet in the air. I [saw] it from my bedroom window. I live right down the next block down there," he said.
For McKeesport's fire chief, this fire has a similar feel to the last time he was in the area around Thanksgiving.
"A month ago, the next block down, this is 2500, in the 2600 block, there was a similar incident," Dep. Chief Don Sabol said.
At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
