Vigil Held For Barbershop Owner Killed In Marshall-Shadeland

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Twenty-four hours after a North Side business owner was gunned down, friends and loved ones gathered at the scene of the homicide to memorialize him.

Lamar Thomas, 44, was shot and killed inside his Marshall-Shadeland barber shop on Saturday.

The victim's step-father says Thomas was among the growing number of innocent victims in the city of Pittsburgh.

"They are trying to do good, trying to stand up for themselves in the right way, Rev. Jeff Burton told KDKA's Kym Gable. "(He) wasn't doing anything and then someone comes and just snuffs your dreams out."

Thomas opened the shop just a month earlier. He married his wife, Sabrina, in 2014.

His wife came to the vigil, but didn't wish to talk to the media.

"They just celebrated their (one) year anniversary, so I felt like it was important for all of us to be here at this spot today to show our support," said a friend of the widow, who did not wish to be identified.

Two city homicide detectives looked on from a distance. They are hoping surveillance cameras on nearby buildings caught something.

They have not released any information on possible suspects.
