Marathon Weekend Kicks Off

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Roughly 40,000 runners from all 50 states and 20 different countries are in Pittsburgh this weekend.

Many of them packed the David L. Lawrence Convention Center for a health and fitness expo.
Some runners got massages, others shopped for running gear.

The marathon is for runners of all ages, but thousands of kids and their parents completed in the kids marathon Saturday morning.

More than 6,000 kids ran the 1-mile course near PNC Park.

Over at Point State Park, a toddler trot was held, as well as a pet walk.

And if you're going downtown for the race, some streets will be closed.

Some of the closures started Friday night.

Staggered closures will roll out around the city Sunday morning. They'll continue through 2:30 p.m. when all roads will be open downtown.
