Police: Bold Thief Waves To Employees As He Takes $600 Tool Kit

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating a bold theft.

A man is accused of walking into a store, stealing hundreds of dollars' worth of merchandise and waving to employees as he leaves.

Delightful and personable aren't the words that come to mind when you think about a thief, but according to state police, a man who recently did some shoplifting at a Lowes was just that.

The Lowes in Hempfield Township was the latest place hit by thieves whose method is to act natural and walk out with the loot hidden in plain sight.

The suspect in this case is described as a white male, balding and wearing a checkered shirt with blue jeans.

He grabbed a power tool kit from the tool section.

"This Dewalt tool kit was just under $600," said State Police Tpr. Stephen Limani.

Then, he headed toward the checkout line.

"This guy is a little different," said Limani.

With his loot in hand, he just walks out – but not before apparently wishing everyone well and waving on his way out.

"It's the first time in 17 years of police work that a person committing the theft waves as he walks out the store," said Limani.

With alarms blaring, one employee went after the thief, but wasn't able to catch him.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
