Man Sought After Leaving Suspicious Box On Rich Fitzgerald's Car

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office was asking for the public's help to identify a man that left a suspicious box on Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald's vehicle Tuesday.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the incident happened on July 17, around 3:35 p.m. at the Allegheny County Courthouse.

"The individual spends approximately five minutes on our property," said Deputy Chief Kevin Kraus with the Allegheny County Sheriff's Department. "Walking around, appears to be acting suspiciously, carrying the box."

Fitzgerald's car was parked underneath the archway of the courthouse and that's where the mysterious box ended up.

The box was eventually determined to be empty.

However, surveillance footage shows a man placing the box on the car and immediately leaving the area.

"He passes several trash cans in the area and continues to Mr. Fitzgerald's vehicle and then leaves the area," said Kraus.

However, Tuesday evening, police said they had located the man and spoken with him before determining that he was not a threat.

No charges will be filed.
