Man Killed After He & Girlfriend Forced Into Basement During Break-In

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police were called to Elliot after a man was killed during a home invasion.

Emergency dispatchers confirm a woman and her boyfriend were home, when someone broke into the home in the 1000-block of Lakewood Street.

The woman says the suspect forced the couple into the basement and shot and killed the boyfriend, 44-year-old Leonard Butler. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This is a relatively new scene and what we can confirm at this moment is we have a black male who is deceased inside of the home here," said Police Spokesperson Sonya Toler. "We are investigating, trying to determine what happened."

Initial reports indicate that two men broke into the house.

Toler said police are continuing to talk to neighbors and possible witnesses.

No word on the suspect.
