Man Armed With Knife Surrenders After Standoff On Paulson Ave.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The SWAT team was called to an apartment building in the city's Lincoln-Lemington section Tuesday night.

It all started shortly after 7 p.m. in the 1300-block of Paulson Avenue.

According to officials at the scene, a man barricaded himself inside of one of the apartments with a knife when police officers were called there to so a welfare check.

Police evacuated the other apartments in the building as a precaution.

"When [police] arrived, the individual was barricaded in his apartment and he refused to come out," said Emily Schaffer, the assistant public information officer for the city. "He was also making threats to harm officers and also had a knife."

The suspect eventually surrendered around 8:45 p.m.

He was taken into custody and then taken to a local hospital to be evaluated. He'll eventually end up at the Allegheny County Jail.

There's no word yet on what charges he might face.
