Man Pleads Guilty To 3rd-Degree Murder From 2002

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A man granted a new trial in a drug-related kidnapping and murder more than a dozen years ago has pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the case.

Thirty-three-year-old Jared Henkel of Mount Lebanon was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison following Monday's plea in federal court.

Henkel had been sentenced to life in prison after he and two other men were convicted in the 2002 slaying of 19-year-old Andrew Jones.

Thirty-three-year-old Jared Lischner also won an appeal and reached a similar deal with prosecutors. Thirty-five-year-old Craig Elias has appealed his first-degree murder conviction.

Authorities alleged that the defendants killed Jones and dumped his body in the Ohio River because they believed he had stolen drugs and money from a safe in a Pittsburgh home they sometimes shared.
