Man Ordered To Trial In Slaying Of Daughter's Ex-Boyfriend

WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial in the shooting death of his daughter's ex-boyfriend.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter reports that a Washington County judge on Friday sent the case against 68-year-old James Bongiorni to county court.

The former police officer and constable is charged in the April 27 death of 38-year-old Brian Wilbert in Burgettstown, about 25 miles west of Pittsburgh.

Defense attorney Robert Del Greco has called the shooting self-defense, saying Wilbert had a knife and an extensive criminal history.

A teenage neighbor who filmed the heated exchange from an upstairs window testified that she heard Bongiorni saying, "'Don't do it, Brian. Don't do it.'"

On cross-examination by the prosecutor, she said she didn't see Wilbert make any aggressive movements before he was shot.
