Man Ordered To Trial In Slaying At Mother's Day Party

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A man has been held for trial in western Pennsylvania in the shooting death of another man at a Mother's Day party in Pittsburgh last year.

Twenty-year-old Brett Terry is charged in Allegheny County in the May 10 slaying of 26-year-old Jamar Thomas at a home in the East Liberty neighborhood.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the victim's teenage brother testified Friday that the defendant was acting strangely toward the victim during the gathering.

He said Terry was "mean-mugging him and disrespecting" Thomas in front of his family and spat food toward him before returning with a gun and killing him.

Defense attorney Blaine Jones said the preliminary hearing had been delayed because his client was suffering from an unspecified mental illness at the time of the shooting.
