Man Involved In Police Chase Potentially Jumps Fence Into Pittsburgh Zoo

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police were searching inside and around the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium Tuesday morning for a man involved in a police chase.

Shortly after midnight, officers were pursuing a Nissan Altima that was believed to be stolen in Dormont.

The driver crashed and abandoned the car on Reservoir Drive, at the Pittsburgh Zoo.

Because the car crashed so close to the zoo, there was concern that the driver had hopped the fence.

Officers called in police K-9s and searched the area for about two hours with the help of zoo security.

They set up a perimeter around the zoo property, but the man was never found. However, police did recover a cell phone when photographers heard it ringing early this morning.

Police called off the search around 2:30 a.m. and cleared the scene.

At this point, the driver is still on the run.
