Man In Custody After Fleeing From State Trooper

TARENTUM (KDKA) -- A man is in custody after attempting to flee from state police in Tarentum early Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 12:10 a.m. on SR-28 in Tarentum.

According to state police, a trooper attempted to pull over a vehicle that was traveling 87 mph in a 55 mph zone on SR-28, but the driver sped off, exiting the highway. The chase continued until the driver made an abrupt turn into the parking lot of Ringer's Pet Dog Training on East 6th Avenue. He then got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

State police say they found the driver at his home, about one block away from where he abandoned his vehicle. The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Maurice A. Franklin, of Tarentum and formerly from Richmond, Va. State police found he was wanted in Butler County for robbery and related charges.

Franklin now also faces charges for fleeing/eluding and other related charges.
