Man Convicted In 2002 Shadyside Rape Case Gets 75-150 Years In Prison

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man convicted of sexually assaulting a woman back in 2002 has now been sentenced to 75 to 150 years in prison.

According to police, 47-year-off Ralph Skundrich raped an 18-year-old college student at her Shadyside apartment in July of 2002.

Police say Skundrich threatened the woman with a gun, demanded money, and then forced her to have sex with him.

During the sentencing Judge David Cashman said he "vividly" remembered the case had some harsh words for Skundrich.

"You need to be removed from society and you are incapable of being rehabilitated," Judge Cashman said. "Your days of torturing women are over."

Skundrich, whose criminal record dates back to 1987, is also facing charges stemming from a second sexual assault case in 2002.

According to police, the second incident happened on June 6, 2002, at the Laurelwood Apartment complex in Cranberry Township, Butler County.

The woman told police that she awoke to a man standing over her. He allegedly threatened to harm her and her child if she called police.

That trial is expected to begin in June.

In addition to these cases, Skundrich is also awaiting trial on two more offenses in Westmoreland County  and a sexual battery case in Florida.
