Inmate Back In Police Custody After Escaping Through Ceiling At Beaver Co. Hospital

BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A hospital in Beaver County was on alert Friday evening after a jail inmate briefly escaped from police custody while in the emergency room.

The Beaver County Sheriff's Office says the inmate, 24-year-old Chad Wimer of Portersville, will now face additional charges.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Wimer was taken to the Heritage Valley Beaver medical center around 5 p.m. after complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath at the jail.

While shackled and waiting in the emergency room, authorities say Wimer was allowed to use the restroom because he complained of not feeling well.

In the bathroom, police say he climbed up into a drop down ceiling

More deputies and K-9 officers were called in and police set up a perimeter around the hospital.

Sheriff's deputies cornered Wimer a short time later still in the ceiling panels, contained within a small area by a fire wall.

He was taken back into custody. Police are investigating the incident.
