Man Attempts To Flee On Foot Across I-279 During Traffic Stop
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police arrested a man Friday morning after he attempted to flee on foot when he was pulled over for a traffic stop near I-279 on the North Side.
The incident happened on East Street near Hazlett Street just after 9 a.m.
Police say an Allegheny County Police officer attempted to pull a driver over for failing to use his turn signal. The driver stopped, but immediately got out of the vehicle and began to flee on foot across I-279 South. The driver, later identified as 50-year-old Darren Rasimczyk of Pittsburgh, continued to flee into traffic in the northbound lanes of I-279. He was sideswiped by a passing vehicle, but still continued to flee. The pursuing officer was able to tase Rasimczyk, get him out of traffic and take him into custody.

According to police, an undetermined amount of money fell out of Rasimczyk's pockets while he was attempting to flee, and he was also found to be in possession of amounts of heroin and cocaine.
Rasimczyk is facing multiple charges, including simple possession and resisting arrest. He and the officer were both sent to Passavant Hospital for minor injuries. Rasimczyk will be sent to Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.
