Investigators: Man Arrested In Series Of Bank Robberies Planned To Kill Pregnant Girlfriend

ROSTRAVER (KDKA) – A man has been arrested in connection with several recent bank robberies around the area.

According to state police, Stephen Gaza IV, 35, of Masontown, was arrested on Monday.

Gaza led police on a brief chase after allegedly robbing the United Bank on Walnut Hill Road in South Union Township.

During questioning, Gaza admitted to two other robberies in the area. The first occurred at a Super Kmart on June 7. The other happened at the PNC Bank in Rostraver Township on June 11.

Gaza also confessed to an attempted robbery at the Huntington Bank in Morgantown, West Virginia, earlier in the day Monday.

"He willingly admitted to the fact that he was involved with the initial robbery that occurred at our bank here. He also admitted to committing a theft-type of robbery at the local Kmart, which is here in Uniontown as well," said Trooper Stefani Lucas, of Pennsylvania State Police. "He also admitted to committing another robbery in Westmoreland County in the Rostraver area. And, actually, yesterday, in the morning, right before he committed the robbery at the bank here, he attempted a robbery at a bank in West Virginia."

KDKA has learned Gaza was allegedly using a pellet gun to rob the United Bank.

According to court records, Gaza told investigators he allegedly planned on killing his pregnant girlfriend with his father's shotgun and then going on the run.
The stolen money was to finance his escape and travel.

Gaza is being held in the Fayette County Prison on $100,000 bond in each of the cases that happened within the county.
