Distinctive Characteristic Helps Police Track Down Robinson Twp. Robbery Suspect

ROBINSON (KDKA) – Police made a quick arrest Friday morning after a bank robbery in Robinson Township.

Authorities say it happened at the First National Bank in the 6200-block Steubenville Pike around 10 a.m.

The suspect is identified as Kirk Stutes of Crowley, Louisiana. Police say it was a unique characteristic that helped them track him down.

Robinson Township Police were nearby when the robbery happened. And, unbeknownst to them, they ended up blocking the suspect's getaway car when they got on the scene.

"Fortunately, that worked out extremely well," said Chief Dale Vietmeier, of the Robinson Township Police Department.

A bloodhound then quickly picked up the bandit's scent.

"They found everything. They found a knife, they found the clothing that he discarded, so they found everything," said Chief Vietmeier.

The bank's security also camera picked up a distinctive characteristic on the robber's hand.

"He was also missing a right index finger. The gentleman they had detained was missing his right index finger," Chief Vietmeier said.

Stutes was also missing an index finger; just like the suspect who robbed the bank. Police say once they confronted him, he confessed.

"It wasn't a good day for him," said Chief Vietmeier.

Stutes was heading back home to Louisiana and said he needed some cash to get there.

Police say he's also been convicted of one other robbery and is wanted for yet another.
