Man, 2 Dogs Forced Out By Fire In Homestead

HOMESTEAD (KDKA)- The Red Cross is helping out a man who was forced out by a fire overnight in Homestead.

The fire started around 1:45 a.m. Friday inside a basement apartment of this home on Ann Street.

"We had heavy smoke showing from the front door," said Homestead Fire Chief James Barca. "We made a quick attack, ended up being basement fire. Police were able to get the occupant out of the house and evacuate the house next door before our arrival."

The man's two dogs also escaped the fire.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause. We're told it started in a kitchen in the basement of the home.

Nobody was injured. Chief Barca says there was minor damage to the first floor of the home and the bulk of the fire was contained in the basement.

The Red Cross is helping the man forced out of the home with food, clothes and shelter. The people evacuated next door were allowed to return to their home.
