Man Accused Of Robbing Bank With Sex Toy To Undergo Mental Evaluation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The man accused of robbing a Crafton bank with a sex toy disguised as a fake bomb waived a hearing and will receive a mental health evaluation.

Aaron Stein was in court Thursday several charges of aggravated assault and robbery.

He waived his hearing and was told to stay away from PNC banks. Stein's $50,000 bond was also reduced to 10 percent and he'll have to undergo a mental health evaluation.

According to court papers, 35-year-old Stein told police he robbed the bank because he was desperate because he had lost all his money in the stock market the previous week.

Stein is accused of robbing the PNC Bank branch in Crafton. A teller described the device he used in the robbery as having wires and a green light on the top that appeared to be a trigger button.

However, it turned out to be a sex toy.

Stein was caught a short while later during a traffic stop. Police say Stein wound up confessing to the robbery and claimed he never had a real bomb.

Unwilling to trust his word, police asked for the Allegheny County Bomb Squad's help.

As the bomb squad investigated, part of the parkway was shut down during rush hour.
