Maker Faire Brings Technology & Art Together In Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh hosted a preview of Maker Faire Pittsburgh - creative entrepreneurs in Nova Place Plaza on the North Side. Faire director Kayce Dewey says it's open to the public in mid-October.

"We have drones, we have space cars, we have robotics, we have dancers, painters. Anything you can think of will be here."

The preview is the tip of the tectonic iceberg. More than 250 makers are expected for the main event. Like Realbotics, creators of the "cupcake cannon."

"You can control it from the internet," says Chris Quick of Realbotics. "You can go to our cupcake cannon room set up here at the fair. You can go to the website and shoot a cupcake."

Eli Richter works with creative collaborators called Hack Pittsburgh, to build unusual racing cars like his mini-DeLorean.

"This is our power wheeled racing car," he says. "Part of the Power Racing Series. We call this 'Hack to the Future.'"

Ten thousand visitors are expected to attend Maker Faire Pittsburgh, October 14-16.
