Maintenance Contractor Killed At Braddock Steel Plant

BRADDOCK, Pa. (AP) - A worker has reportedly died in an unspecified accident at a United States Steel Corp. plant near Pittsburgh.

Company spokeswoman Sarah Cassella says the worker wasn't a plant employee.

He was employed by Whistler Construction Inc. in Braddock, the same suburb where the Edgar Thomson Plant is located, about five miles from Pittsburgh.

Whistler's vice president, Robert Fisher, and the company were not answering phones Wednesday afternoon. The steelmaker says the contractor was in the process of notifying the worker's family.

Cassella says the worker was performing unspecified "planned maintenance" when he was killed. No other injuries were reported and the steelmaker wasn't providing other details immediately.

A statement released by Cassella says, "We offer our sincere condolences."
