Loved Ones Host Fundraiser For Local Singer Recovering From Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Hundreds of people turned out Sunday night at Latitude 360 for a benefit for a part time DJ and singer who was shot randomly in Stowe Twp. three weeks ago.

Carlton Leeper, 61, of Ingram, was shot in the face. The bullet went into his cheek, shattered his jaw and pierced his tongue.

His vocal chords were not damaged and loved ones are optimistic he'll make a full recovery.

Leeper, who has a difficult time speaking and has to write many things down, told KDKA TV's Ralph Iannotti, "I feel wonderful, and I will sing again."

He added, "it's amazing, so many nice people, doing so many nice things for me. I'm so happy to be alive."

When Leeper was shot, he was in his car with his 33-year-old son, Michael. Police said it didn't appear Leeper was targeted.

In the past couple of weeks, about $20,000 has been raised for Leeper to help pay his medical bills.

One of the fundraiser's organizers, John Sarkis, said, "Carlton is a hell of a guy, that's why there were so many people at the benefit."
