Local Woman's Missing Seizure Alert Dog Found

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local woman's missing seizure alert dog has been found.

Catherine Kimmel, 23, was reunited with Zero, her seizure alert dog, Saturday.

A Swissvale dog catcher was asked to pick up a stray dog Thursday on Woodstock Avenue. After hearing about Kimmel's missing dog, he believed the stray he picked up was Zero.

Zero, a 7-year-old black lab, went missing Thursday morning from the Braddock and North Braddock area. As a seizure alert dog, Zero can detect when Kimmel is going to have a seizure hours before she does. Kimmel said she gets about five to seven seizures a day.

"There's been instances where I didn't know I was going to go into a seizure and he had actually dragged me out of a chair to sit on the floor so I wouldn't hurt myself," Kimmel said. "I don't always have people around me, so I need someone to watch over me."
