Local Student Hit & Killed By Vehicle Near Penn State

STATE COLLEGE (KDKA)- A local graduate student at Penn State was hit and killed by a vehicle in State College.

Michael Eiben, 23, was hit by the vehicle around 10:45 p.m. Monday, while he was crossing the street at the intersection of North Atherton Street and Curtin Road.

Eiben is from Wexford and is a North Allegheny High School graduate.

Police say the vehicle that hit Eiben stopped. It was driven by Joel Berger, 27, of State College.

So far, Berger hasn't been cited or charged.

Police say it appears neither man had been drinking, but tests are being done to confirm that.

Penn State's spokeswoman, Lisa Powers, says Eiben was working towards his Master's thesis in the university's five-year engineering program.
