Possible Lightning Strike Causes Porch Collapse In Hazelwood

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A possible lightning strike brought down part of an apartment building in Pittsburgh's Hazelwood neighborhood during Saturday afternoon's heavy rain.

Pittsburgh firefighters were called to the corner of Chaplain Way and Path Way around 5:30 p.m.

A porch roof and portion of the façade came crashing down onto the sidewalk.

Bricks and debris went all over the street.

Firefighters shut the road down for several hours.

"One brick fell, then a ton of them fell, like boom and it just collapsed," said Tonya Scott, a witness.

"So, thank God, no one was there," added Ray Furlong, a neighbor. "Someone definitely would have gotten a headache or killed."

The building inspector will have to determine whether the family can stay there.
