SWAT Called For Suicidal Man, Shuts Down Liberty Avenue

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The 4500 block of Liberty Avenue was shut down for a period of time Sunday night as police responded to a man that wanted to hurt himself and others.

He also had a cache of weapons, according to police.

Police responded and closed Liberty Avenue between Ella and Taylor Streets.

Once SWAT arrived, they began negotiations with the man and around 8:45 p.m., he surrendered without incident.

He was then taken to UPMC Presbyterian for medical evaluation and then transferred to Western Psych for a full evaluation.

The street was reopened around 9:10 p.m.
