Legionella Case Confirmed At McKeesport Personal Care Home
MCKEESPORT (KDKA) -- Allegheny County officials confirm a resident at the Kane Regional Center in McKeesport has tested positive for Legionella.
According to a press release, immediate steps were taken by the administration at the Kane Regional Center, in cooperation with the Allegheny County Health Department, to address any strains of the disease at the facility.
Officials have not identified the resident or said what condition she is in.
The Kane Regional Center was made aware of the sick resident on Oct. 24. Everyone on the affected portion of the building was reportedly directed to use bottled water and showers were restricted.
Additionally, a Tarn-Pure system was installed that same day to begin proactive treatment of the water.
Water from the facility did test positive for Legionella and restrictions on water use will stay in place a until the tasting shows negative results for Legionella.
"Our message to family members is that we're doing everything possible under the direction of the health department to make sure everyone is safe. We are not doing this because there is some emergency. We are doing it because we got the results back today and we wanted the community to hear, not the rumors," said Kane Regional Center Executive Director Dennis Biondo.
