Leechburg H.S. Parents Upset After Student Found With Loaded Gun
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A local school district is dealing with the aftermath of a young teen bringing a loaded gun to school.
Leechburg High School found out about it after the student reportedly waved it another student.
There were no classes being held at the school on Friday, due to tonight's prom. However, many are still talking about the incident.
Police said a 13-year-old pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and waved it at another student inside the school Thursday afternoon.
Leechburg Police were called in at 2 p.m., patted the student down and found the fully-loaded gun with a bullet in the chamber ready to fire.
He was immediately taken into custody and police found out that the gun was stolen.
"That child, where did he get that stolen handgun from? That's telling you that child is either running around and the parents aren't knowing what the child is doing, or the parents themselves stole the gun," Melissa Darrow said.
The Leechburg superintendent said no shots were fired and other students weren't in danger, but parents aren't convinced.
Some parents said they're frustrated that they found out about the threat by email after the fact.
"It was an email to us notifying that there was a weapon in the school and the kid was taken into custody and everything, but like I said, it was already after the fact. Our son was already home from school," Toni Chaney said.
The teen is facing eight charges, including possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, burglary and theft.
