Lawrenceville Main Break Sends Water Shooting Into Air

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A water main break in Lawrenceville sent water shooting into the air.

It happened on Leyton Street.

It's unclear how much water has spilled out, but photos from the scene show a forceful stream of water shooting up into the air.

It took nearly 11 hours before crews were able to shut off the water.

The family living in the home behind it notified the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority, which came out to survey the damage.

And it was extensive.

"My son was here this morning, he come home around 6:30 and he heard a gurgling noise and shortly after, the fountain," said Christine Rall, the daughter of the homeowner.

The family was stranded at the house until the PWSA was able to shut off the water.

The pipe is not owned by the city, so the family will have to call a plumber to have it fixed.

The department is providing them bottled water in the meantime.
