Law Enforcement Conducting DUI Checkpoints In Weeks Leading Up To July 4

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – PennDOT and other law enforcement agencies will be out looking for impaired drivers over the next few weeks.

Starting Monday, and running through July 5, officers will be on the lookout.

Drivers can expect DUI checkpoints, as well as roving patrols.

Officials say if you must drink, don't get behind the wheel.

"Last year on the Fourth of July weekend, we saw 70 crashes – DUI related – and three were drug related," said PennDOT Safety Press Officer Juliann Scheldon.

PennDOT says last year, police responded to more than 530 impaired driving crashes statewide in the two weeks leading up to the Fourth of July.
