Kraft Heinz Changes Classic Mac & Cheese Recipe

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The comfort classic from your childhood is getting a makeover.

Kraft Heinz announced last April that they planned to remove synthetic coloring from the blue boxed dinner. This decision followed a petition asking them to stop using the dyes.

However, some people weren't thrilled with the plan, urging the company to keep the recipe the same.

According to Business Insider, Kraft Heinz decided to quietly make the shift without drawing much attention.

In December, artificial dyes including "yellow 5" and "yellow 6" were replaced with paprika, annatto, and turmeric. Since the swap, more than 50 million boxes have been sold.

Kraft Heinz is calling the quiet switch the "world's largest blind taste test," although the ingredients were correctly changed on the box.

Monday the company launched a new ad campaign presenting the message: "It's changed. But it hasn't."
