Kindness Goes Viral: Customer Service Rep Helps Pittsburgh Woman Jilted By Fiancé

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The story of an act of kindness by a customer service rep has gone viral.

A local woman who was down in the dumps never expected to get a boost from calling a credit card company.

But that's exactly what happened for Christina Grady of Millvale.

Her fiance recently broke up with her, so she moved to a new place in Millvale. But her credit card was shut off for suspicious activity when she tried to buy furniture and have it sent to the new address.

"The only thing I had to sit on in my living room was a bicycle," said Grady. "So when I called Capital One, I was pretty annoyed."

On the other end of the phone, was a Capital One customer service representative, known as Tonya KYY-905 on her official company ID.

"She like deescalated me," said Grady.

Tonya KYY-905 gave her 4,500 miles and encouraged her to have fun on a trip. "I was like, aw, she's making me feel really good."

But the real surprise came later, on a particularly rough day.

"My ex called and said someone sent you flowers to my house, and I thought that's weird. Who would do that?" asked Grady. "And then I opened them up, and they were from Tonya, and I was just really happy."

"It was like they were from womanhood saying: 'You got this. You're okay,'" she said.

"I wanted to do something extra special to help brighten her day," said Tonya.

Grady posted the act of kindness on Facebook to thank Tonya and to inspire others.

Cosmopolitan, US Weekly, People and Buzz Feed have all picked up the story.

"I just want to tell Tonya thank you for changing my outlook when I was feeling down," said Grady.

"I feel like it meant more to me that it made her so happy," said Tonya. "And it just perked her up. You know? And it just changed her whole attitude."

By the way, Grady plans on going to Belize with her bridesmaids and wearing her dress anyway.
