Kevin Allen On Pens: They'd Be An Easy Out In Postseason

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - With three games remaining in the regular season and the Penguins playoff chances still hanging in the balance, USA Today NHL Writer Kevin Allen joined Starkey and Mueller to talk about what they'll do if they make it.

"If you look at all the teams in the East, Montreal has been consistent, Tampa Bay is exceptional, Boston is playing well now - five in a row, the Rangers have been good all year, Washington can play one goal games." Allen said. "The two teams you don't like that look like easy outs are Detroit and Pittsburgh."

The Pens have mostly been a work in progress throughout the season as General Manager Jim Rutherford was wheeling and dealing to make them better, and Allen shares his thoughts on the job Rutherford has done.

"For the most part, I've liked Rutherford's moves," Allen said. "I think the moves he's made were all geared towards what I thought was his mandate of making this team better prepared for the playoffs, but it doesn't matter if he can't get the team into the playoffs."
