Kennywood's "Noah's Ark" Attraction Takes Top Honors At Amusement Park Awards

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A classic Kennywood attraction has once again taken top honors.

For the sixth straight year, "Noah's Ark" was named the "Best Funhouse/Walk-Through Attraction by Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards.

The walk-through attraction, modeled after the Bible story, was built back in 1936 and remodeled in 1996.

Those are the same years, the Pittsburgh area dealt with severe flooding.

Kennywood says they work hard to maintain the classic ride while trying to incorporating new aspects.

In a press release, Kennywood General Manager Jerome Gibas says: "Noah's Ark is as essential to the mystique of Kennywood as almost any other ride, and we're honored for it to receive this award. We work hard to keep the Ark going as the classic it's been for generations, while incorporating new aspects to keep it fresh for new visitors."

Kennywood is planning improvements to the attraction during the 2015-16 off-season.

Also making the 2015 list of award winners is Idlewild and SoakZone, which took top honors in the Best Children's Park category.

The annual Golden Ticket Awards were announced over the weekend at Coney Island.
