Kennywood Park Opens For 118th Season

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- Saturday was opening day at Kennywood Park, marking the beginning of  the National Historic Landmark's 118th season.

This year's main attraction isn't a new ride, but the newly renovated "Noah's Ark." The massive whale has returned, along with its squishy tongue.

Currently, Kennywood is only open on weekends. By the end of the month, the park will be open daily.

Workers were busy this week, checking rides for safety and hosing down appliances. The place was abuzz with the changes.

"The tongue is actually a lot longer than it was in the past," says park spokesman Nick Paradise.

He says the tongue is a 32-foot squishy carpet.

Across the midway from the Ark, Kennywood's most popular ride, the Potato Patch, has also undergone significant improvements.
