Kennywood worker, 73, dies after being struck by vehicle near park in West Mifflin

A Kennywood employee was struck and killed by a vehicle near the park in West Mifflin on Sunday.

Lorna Lee Brennen, 73, was walking with a co-worker to the park for her shift when she was struck at the intersection of Kennywood Boulevard and Hoffman Boulevard around 5:45 a.m. She was pronounced deceased just before 6 a.m., according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our hosts, who passed away earlier this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. Out of respect for the family's privacy, we are unable to provide additional information," Kennywood General Manager Ricky Spicuzza said in a statement.

Dolores Roberts says her sister, Lorna, loved working at the amusement park. She worked as a custodian for the past two years and enjoyed talking with parkgoers as well as her coworkers.

Roberts says Lorna lived a life of service, only working to give her paycheck away to those in need.

"She didn't need the money, but she wanted extra money to help people who were in need," Roberts said. "She used all the money she made there to help other people."

Roberts says that's just the kind of person Lorna was. It was God first, then family.

Police have not released details about the driver involved, but Roberts says she was told he stayed on the scene and cooperated with police.

Roberts says she finds solace in knowing Lorna is in Heaven, reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her, and adds her legacy will live on through her family.

"I know she's rejoicing now. But it's our own personal grief that hurts because we're not going to have her anymore," Roberts added.
