Homes Evacuated After Car Strikes Kennedy Twp. Gas Meter

KENNEDY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) Evacuations have been ordered after a vehicle struck a gas meter in Kennedy Township Friday morning.

The crash happened near the intersection of McKees Rocks and Summit roads around 9 a.m.

Crews had trouble turning off the gas because the car was sitting on top of the meter.

No injuries were reported, but 10 homes in the area have been evacuated.

"The gas company will check and evaluate the homes with the air flow to make sure none of the homes were saturated with gas before the people will go back in their residences," Kennedy Twp. Fire Chief Christopher Gutt said.

Warming buses were called to the area for those affected by the evacuations.

The female driver was taken to the hospital, but the extent of her injures are not known.
