Great American Banna Split Celebration
The Great American Banana Split Celebration kicks off Friday in Latrobe.
Latrobe pharmacist David Strickler created the treat in 1904 in Tassell Pharmacy on Ligonier Street. The celebration this year is on Main and Ligonier streets.

PRC Household Chemicals Collection
The Pennsylvania Resources Council is hosting another household chemicals collection this Saturday, Aug. 20.
It runs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Boyce Park Ski Lodge parking lot.
You can bring household paint, cleaners, pool and garden chemicals, car batteries, motor oil and other products you shouldn't throw in the trash.
There is a $20 fee to cover safe disposal up to 50 pounds.

Help America Vote Day
Aug. 16 is Help America Vote Day and the acting Pennsylvania secretary of state is encouraging voters to be poll workers this November.
They say it takes thousands to staff the more than 9,000 voting locations.
